December 25, (THEWILL) — Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has condemned in strong terms the suicide attack at the Al-Adum Jumu’at Mosque in the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri on Wednesday evening.
A suspected suicide bomber sneaked into the mosque while worshippers were performing Maghrib prayers, killing five people and injuring 35 others.
Governor Zulum, conveying his condolences from the frontline in Northern Borno through his Special Adviser on Media and Official Spokesperson, Dauda Iliya, called for increased vigilance and heightened security measures, particularly at places of worship during the festive period.
“I am deeply saddened by the Gamboru mosque suicide attack which occurred on Wednesday evening when worshippers were performing Maghrib prayer, killing 5 people and injuring 35 others. The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” Zulum said.
He added, “Attacking a place of worship is a desecration of the sanctity of the mosque at a time when Muslim faithful are performing acts of worship.”
The Governor expressed his sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He assured residents that adequate measures have been taken to forestall further security breaches during the festive period and beyond.
THEWILL reports that Governor Zulum, who has been on a working visit to Northern Borno, directed security agencies to intensify surveillance across the state capital and other vulnerable areas to ensure the safety of lives and property.
