November 04, (THEWILL) — Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Tuesday, handed over 63 patrol vehicles to security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to strengthen ongoing efforts to combat criminality in Maiduguri and its environs.
According to the distribution breakdown, 30 vehicles were allocated to the 10 different CJTF sectors, 16 to the Rapid Response and Anti-Social Vices units, 10 to paramilitary organisations, six to hunters, and one to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The initiative, according to the governor, is aimed at improving mobility, coordination, and rapid response capacity among security formations tackling armed gangs and other criminal elements within the state capital and surrounding communities.
This latest donation adds to several vehicle distributions by the Zulum administration since 2019, all designed to bolster security architecture and safeguard lives and property across Borno State.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing consistent logistical and operational support to security agencies.
Zulum said, “We are here in continuation of our efforts to support the security apparatus in Borno State with equipment and logistics needed for them to function effectively.
“I want to assure you that under my leadership, the government will continue to assist all security agencies in our collective quest to rid the state of insurgency and other crimes.”
The governor also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian Armed Forces for their continued support in restoring peace to the state.
He said, “Let me use this opportunity to express my profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Service Chiefs, the Theatre Commander, Sector Commanders, and all officers and men of Operation Hadin Kai, as well as paramilitary organisations in Borno, for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and stability.”
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur; Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; Commissioner of Police, Borno Command, Naziru Abdulmajid; State Director of the Department of State Services, Adamu Umar; and Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdulrazaq Haroon.
Others in attendance were the Head of Service, Dr. Muhammad Ghuluze, commissioners, special advisers, and other top government officials.
