BEVERLY HILLS, October 06, (THEWILL) – The Judicial Commission of Enquiry on Contracts awarded in Imo State between 2006 and 2019 has submitted its report to Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Chairman of the Commission, Justice Benjamin Iheaka said “it uncovered some contract scams by the contractors in collusion with some civil servants to inflate the value of contracts executed in the state.”
The report said that there was a fragrant disregard to the Public Procurement Act in the award of some contracts, pricing and executions as well as payment for non-performing contracts.”
Justice Iheaka added evidence of non-existing and phoney companies that were used to siphon State Government funds to the tune of N106 billion.
The Commission, however, commended some honest and dedicated civil servants who resisted pressure to use their offices to defraud the State Government during the period under review.
Receiving the report, Governor Hope Uzodimma assured that all those indicted by the Commission will be made to return them. He added that in a few days, the Government will set-up a Review Committee to study and recommend the actual direction to follow in implementing the report.
He assured the Chairman and his members that much as the Government will not witch-hunt anyone unnecessarily, it will definitely not shy away from implementing to the letter, the recommendations on those who willfully fleeced the state of her scarce resources to serve as a deterrent to future criminals.
