February 28, (THEWILL) –Â Former vice president and presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the statement credited to the National Leader of All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that the youths could become president after him.
Tinubu had during his consultation visit to Alaafin Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, said that the youths could contest for the presidential position after he became the president of the nation
“You too will become president but before you become president. I will do mine first Insha Allah, then you will come after mine.” he said
But, Abubakar while reacting to Tinubu, called on the youths to contest with him and the APC national leader or any other prominent personalities for 2023 presidential election.
He stated this shortly after a closed-door meeting with a former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo when he paid him a visit at his presidential library residence in Abeokuta, recently.
The ex-vice president, who maintained that he had never failed to win PDP’s presidential ticket, said that he came to visit Obasanjo to seek his support and blessings for his presidential ambition.
He, therefore, insisted that he remains the preferred candidate to win the presidential ticket of the party ahead of the 2023 election.
Abubakar added that he would soon declare his intention officially to run for presidency in the coming election
“Let the youths compete with the elders , it is competition. It is democracy.”
“Have I ever failed to get the ticket. We will let you know, we will give a formal announcement.” he said.
He later visited the Alake and the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
