March 03, (THEWILL) – Fiery Christian cleric, Prophet Isa El Buba, has called for outright cancellation of last Saturday’s presidential election in Nigeria, noting that it was marred by irregularities and failed to conform with the standards set by the 2022 Electoral Act, as amended.
Speaking in the aftermath of the election as conducted by the INEC, El Buba, who is also the Chairman of the Global Coalition for Better and Brighter Nigeria, CBBN, in an interview with newsmen in Jos, said his group might be compelled to take their protest against the fraud that took place last Saturday, in the name of election to the INEC offices across the country to express their disappointment.
El-Buba noted that before the Saturday polls were held, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, publicly assured Nigerians and the International community that INEC had made adequate preparations for free and fair elections across the country, regretting that the polls were fraught with irregularities.
The founder and overseer of EBOMI Church also noted that the Saturday election exercise has left millions of Nigerians disappointed and disillusioned because of the unprofessional conduct of state and non-state actors that participated in the process.
He maintained that the Electoral Act was amended in 2022 to allow for electronic transmission of results after they have been declared at the polling units, and that Nigerians participated in this process with the belief that the use of technology and adherence to the agreed electronic transmission of results to INEC servers at polling units would ensure free, fair, and transparent elections, and so can’t put up with the sham that took place.
El Buba contended that the INEC servers were shut down during the Presidential elections, and the results could not be uploaded onto the INEC server.
“The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) did not work as planned”, he said.
According to him, “The failure has undoubtedly given room for manipulating the Presidential results as announced by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu. These manipulations were carried out under the watchful eyes and connivance of security agents at several polling units and INEC offices.”
“The decision of INEC to go ahead and announce these doctored results based on manufactured voting has defeated the efforts made by Nigerians to see that the Electoral Act was amended to allow for electronic transmission of results”, he added.
Thus, he has called for conduct of fresh Presidential Poll in line with the provisions of the amended Electoral Act,
noting that it is disheartening that more than 24 hours after the elections was held across the country, the INEC is still battling to upload the authentic results of the Presidential poll on to its server.
