March 04, (THEWILL) – The Cross River State Chapter of the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), says the Labour Party Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, earned his votes in the state.
Similarly, the Council also commended the senator-elect for Southern Senatorial District in the State, Asuquo Ekpenyong and other winners, for emerging victorious during the elections in the state last Saturday.
Comrade Anthony Bussing, the state chairman of IPAC disclosed this in Calabar while reviewing the outcome of the just concluded elections in the state.
In his words, “The intention of the people was clear, the people went obedient and the result was loud.
“We congratulate Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential Candidate because the votes he polled rightly belonged to him and we endorse the outcome of the Presidential election.
“For Asuquo Ekpenyong, the senator elect for the southern senatorial district of the state, after our detailed interaction with our candidates, we found out that he was projected to win the election from our independent poll.
“We understand how visible he was in the field and his victory is not in dispute.
“Majority of parties in IPAC have accepted the outcome of the elections in Cross River South and we congratulate him formally”, he said.
He added that IPAC is happy for his election, especially because he belongs to the younger generation and may likely emerge one of the youngest senators in the 10th Senate.
IPAC also commended other winners including Ekpenyong Akiba (Calabar Municipality/Odukpani), Alex Egbonna (Abi/Yakurr), Jarigbe Agom (Cross River North), Victor Abang (Ikom/Boki) and many other winners, saying their victory is not in dispute.
However, IPAC expressed reservations with the Central Senatorial district election, as well as that of Etung/Obubra Federal Constituency.
The senatorial elections produced the current speaker of the state house of assembly, Eteng Jonah Williams, as Senator-elect, while Mike Etaba clinched a third term for the Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency.
He said the outcome of these elections is questionable and a good number of parties are resolved to meet the winners in court.
He also thanked INEC in the state for conducting a relatively free and fair elections and urged them to sustain the tempo during the upcoming elections.
