December 27, (THEWILL) – Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Edet Otu, has placed infrastructure development at the heart of his administration’s agenda, committing over N333 billion of the state’s N538.5 billion 2025 budget to this critical sector.
The budget, tagged “Budget of Sustainable Growth,” was signed into law by Otu on Christmas Eve following its passage by the State House of Assembly.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Otu highlighted his administration’s vision to transform Cross River into a hub of sustainable development, improve living standards, and stimulate economic growth.
“The 2025 budget, with a total size of N538,523,915,715.99, reflects our unwavering commitment to economic growth, infrastructure development, and improving the well-being of our people,” Otu said.
He added, “Infrastructure is the backbone of sustainable development, and we are resolute in our determination to create world-class infrastructure for Cross River State.”
Capital expenditure accounts for 62% of the budget, amounting to N333.34 billion, which will be channeled into key infrastructure projects such as road construction, healthcare facilities, and educational development. These initiatives are expected to drive long-term growth and create jobs across the state.
The remaining 38%, equivalent to N205 billion, is allocated for recurrent expenditure. This will cover government operations, including salaries, pensions, healthcare services, and education, ensuring the smooth running of public institutions and services.
Otu commended the State House of Assembly for its swift approval of the budget. “Their dedication ensures we’re on track to start 2025 strong,” he said.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, provided insight into the budget’s progression. He revealed that the original proposal submitted by the governor on October 28, 2024, was N498 billion but was increased to N538.5 billion following a review by the legislature’s Finance and Appropriation Committee.
The 2025 budget reflects Governor Otu’s commitment to building a prosperous Cross River State, driven by sustainable growth and people-centered policies.
