July 24, (THEWILL) – Crusaders Feeders football club of Peretorugbene community in the Ekeremor Council Area have booked their place in the Final of the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Competition after beating Agbere FC by two goals to one in the second semi-final.
The much-anticipated tie, which was played at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, on Sunday, proved worthy of the hype in the largest grassroots football tournament in the country.
Jacob’s third-minute strike and Junior Christopher’s scissors kick in the 36th minute were enough to send the Ekeremor-based team through to the Final.
Igbiwu Ewhriooma pulled one back on 32 minutes with a beautiful header to draw level, a goal that motivated his teammates to push for a double, but were humbled by Christopher’s strike minutes later.
Agbere FC of Sagbama were hoping to upturn last year’s feat where they lost in the semis and finished the competition as the third-best team, but the 2-1 defeat condemned the team to a second successive semi-final loss.
They will now battle Odi-based Dream Boys Academy for third place while Crusaders Feeders FC will tackle Saturday’s winners, De Grace FC of Yenagoa, in the Final billed for Sunday, July 30.
Bayelsa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Igali and the State Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Ofem Arikpo, who performed the official kickoff, alongside other major stakeholders, witnessed the second semi-final game.
