December 25, (THEWILL) – As the yuletide season unfolds, the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has urged energy consumers in its franchise areas to prioritise electrical safety and adhere strictly to precautionary measures to prevent accidents.
The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olubukola Ilevbare, disclosed this during a live radio programme in Bayelsa State as part of a broader safety campaign to address the increased risks associated with the harmattan and festive season.
Ilevbare emphasised that customer safety remains a core priority for PHED, noting that the company is committed to ensuring zero accidents across its network annually.
“PHED’s management considers the safety of its customers a top priority and will stop at nothing to achieve zero electrical accidents annually within its network. We also take deliberate steps to improve our safety campaigns every year to educate both our internal and external customers,” she said.
She further encouraged customers to report any electrical emergencies or hazards by contacting the company’s 24-hour call centre via **070022557433**, assuring them of swift responses to avert loss of lives and property.
Speaking on the same programme, the Head of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at PHED, Itoro Essienobom, highlighted essential safety practices for the yuletide season. He stressed the need for heightened caution, particularly as the harmattan season increases the risk of wildfires, while the excitement of the festivities could lead to carelessness.
“Customers must avoid contact with fallen power poles, live electrical wires, and driving into power installations. It is crucial to avoid activities such as merchandising, parking vehicles, or residing under high-tension lines,” Essienobom said.
He also warned against conducting transactions beneath high-tension lines and underscored the importance of adhering to the right-of-way rules for power lines.
PHED assured its customers across Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States of its commitment to delivering safe and reliable power supply throughout the festive season.
The company has intensified its safety campaigns through multiple channels, including live radio shows, jingles, social media engagements, press releases, fliers, town crier services, and strategic stakeholder engagements.
