May 29, (THEWILL) – A motion to adopt Governor Hyacinth Alia as the sole governorship candidate in the 2027 general election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress was adopted at the Ibrahim Babangida Square, Makurdi, on Thursday.
This motion was moved by the Caretaker Committee chairman of APC, Dr Benjamin Omale, and supported by members of the Benue State House of Assembly, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Benue State chapter, and the Gubernatorial Liaison officers (GLOs).
The chairman of the APC Elders Forum in Benue State, Senator Barnabas Gemade, who conducted the affairs, put the motion forward, and all stakeholders, through voice votes, unanimously supported the motion.
President Bola Tinubu was equally adopted as the sole presidential candidate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general election.
In their separate remarks, the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Benue State Council of traditional rulers and other stakeholders have scored the Governor Hyacinth Alia administration high in the area of security and infrastructural development.
Omale said all the council wards are with the party, saying the administration’s policies have attracted support.
He said that from security, civil service reforms, equipment of hospitals, agriculture, the ICT, youth and women empowerment policies have endeared Benue people to the administration.
He commended the Benue State House of Assembly and judiciary for standing by the state government despite what he described as a kangaroo judgement, and pledged total support to the Alia administration to move to a higher standard.
Speaking, Senator Chief Barnabas Gemade said Benue people are proud of the agricultural policy of the Alia administration to check food shortage in the state.
He assured that Governor Alia will get up to one million votes in 2027, more than the four hundred votes he got in the 2023 general election, saying development has sprang up in infrastructure, electricity.
According to him, the Alia administration has prioritised salaries, pensions, among other incentives.
Senator Gemade described as mischievous the media attacks and speculation that Governor Alia is planning to defect to another political party, warning anyone who is not satisfied to leave the APC to other parties.
The Tor Tiv, HRM, Prof. James Ortese Ayatse, ably represented by the Tor Kwande, Chief Ambrose Iortyer, said the Tiv nation is under siege by the marauding terrorists, calling on the government to take quick action to halt the trend.
According to him, the herders’ attack is on the rise with killings, destruction of lives and properties in various communities in the state, commending the Alia administration for efforts at curtailing the menace.
He assured that the Benue traditional institution is one hundred percent behind his policies aimed at empowering the people of the state to be self-sufficient, among others.
In her remarks, the State APC Woman leader, Mrs Helen Agaigbe, said women of Benue state have fared well as they have enjoyed many appointments and pledged to vote for him in 2027 to continue the good work.
Chairman of the occasion, Retired Brigadier General Atom Kpera, affirmed the ability of Governor Alia to deliver on the mandate Benue people gave him, saying he has earned himself a pass mark in office so far, and called for support.
The Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation and Illegal Levy, Mr Terver Gbenda, pledged support to the Alia administration now and in 2027 to continue with the good work he has been doing in the past two years.
He advised Abuja-based Benue politicians to stop distracting the Alia Government, but key into the system in the interest of the state.
