Sule Lamido

July 23, (THEWILL) — Former Jigawa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared his readiness to support any political arrangement aimed at securing Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Lamido made this known while addressing journalists at his Kano residence on Tuesday.

“I am willing to work for any arrangement within the PDP or outside the PDP for a secure Nigeria in 2027,” he said.

He, however, dismissed speculations that he was planning to dump the PDP for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stressing his loyalty to the party despite its challenges.

“I am PDP, and I remain in PDP. Even though the PDP has some problems, I can’t simply walk out of my skin and crawl into another flesh and be conferred with a smaller skin called ADC. I cannot,” he stated.

Lamido recounted his long-standing commitment to the PDP, noting that he had gone through trials and made significant contributions to the party’s growth.

“I have a history with the PDP. I was detained, harassed, blackmailed. My office was burnt, my house was almost torched, and my family humiliated—all for the PDP,” he recalled.

He added that the party had also honoured him by appointing him Minister of Foreign Affairs and electing him Governor, which further deepened his attachment to the PDP.

“I cannot renounce my history, my legacy, and my heritage. I cannot say today that I have something new and leave the PDP. I won’t do that,” Lamido stressed.

Speaking on the recent calls for the creation of new states, the former governor said the agitations were legitimate but insisted that they must be weighed against more urgent national issues.

According to him, insecurity, poverty, hunger, and the growing division between the North and South are more pressing challenges that require immediate attention.

Lamido, however, maintained that he had no objection to state creation if it would help resolve the country’s existing socio-economic problems.
