The deceased officer, simply identified as Jide, was fatally shot on Tuesday when a team of NDLEA operatives stormed a residential building following intelligence that illicit drugs were concealed in the ceiling.
A security source familiar with the operation said, “While some of the operatives went inside to conduct the search, the officer stationed outside on surveillance was ambushed by armed assailants who shot him in the neck. He was rushed to the hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.”
Reacting to the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the police immediately reinforced security in the area following the attack.
According to him, four suspects connected to the incident have been arrested, and a single-barrel gun was recovered from them.
“The police and the NDLEA are conducting a joint investigation into the incident. We are committed to ensuring that all those involved in this heinous crime are brought to justice,” Ayanlade said.
