September 10, (THEWILL) — National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has said that more governors will defect to the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Yilwatda made the disclosure on Tuesday during the Bayelsa State chapter’s 12th expanded stakeholders’ meeting and endorsement of President Tinubu in Yenagoa, the state capital.
Represented by the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, Yilwatda said President Tinubu’s performance in office had already convinced governors, senators, and other political leaders across party lines to join the APC.
He recalled the recent defections of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwore, and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, describing them as evidence of Tinubu’s growing influence.
“Our doors are still open. More governors are moving into our party, more personalities are coming in,senators, members of the House of Representatives, all because of the calibre, integrity, and performance of the president,” he said.
Yilwatda dismissed opposition efforts to challenge Tinubu in 2027, likening the president to a lion undisturbed by “the barking of small animals.”
“It is expected that opposition will bark, but we are confident we have a product that even a blind man in this country will support overwhelmingly,” he added.
He praised governors from the South-South and South-East for what he called their “realism and understanding,” noting that many had abandoned their former parties to join APC in order to “move Nigeria forward.”
“The president is not afraid; he takes the bull by the horns. What others lacked the political will to do, he is achieving. This president is on the move to take Nigeria to a greater height,” Yilwatda stressed.
He urged APC members in Bayelsa to remain united and work together to secure an overwhelming victory in 2027.
Also speaking at the event, former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, said the APC in the state remained united and ready for the forthcoming elections.
