March 27, (THEWILL) – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s second term in office is assured, despite ongoing opposition maneuvers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a special Iftar/Lenten dinner in Abuja on Wednesday night, Akpabio stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is poised to consolidate power and secure more elective seats across the country in the next polls.
Addressing party stakeholders, Akpabio urged them to work in unity to ensure President Tinubu’s re-election, declaring, “Can we say amen? We will offer prayers for our party, that yes, indeed, victory shall be ours in 2027. Can we say a loud amen? And we will also pray for Mr. President that his second term is assured. Can we shout a loud amen?”
He further emphasised the party’s commitment to expanding its influence, saying, “Our governors will grow in numbers, and in the National Assembly, we will continue to add to those numbers. We recently sent one of our own in the Senate to take care of Edo State. Is that not a good thing?”
In his welcome remarks, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, said the gathering was an opportunity for party stalwarts to reflect, strategize, and strengthen their resolve toward national development.
He stressed the need for unity within the party, urging members to take ownership of the administration’s successes and challenges.
“Because we practice partisan democracy and we produced this government, we must take full ownership of it, regardless of our individual positions. The success of the government is our collective success, just as its failure would be our collective failure,” Uzodinma said.
He likened governance to a dish with contrasting flavors, stating, “As we work towards a more prosperous Nigeria, leadership is like a sweet and sour soup. Sometimes it is sweet, sometimes it is bitter, but at the end of the day, it is a meal we must all partake in.”
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, highlighted the administration’s economic strides, citing a drop in inflation and a reduction in the cost of living as indicators of progress.
“We are all experiencing it firsthand. Inflation is down, food prices are decreasing, energy costs are stabilizing, and the exchange rate is steady. These are the key factors that affect the cost of living,” Edun said.
He noted that President Tinubu remains committed to initiatives aimed at alleviating the burden on vulnerable Nigerians, stating, “Mr. President is making every effort to intervene, particularly for the poor and underprivileged.”
The event, organised by the PGF, sought to foster camaraderie among APC governors, National Assembly members, ministers, and top government officials, reinforcing the party’s unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Dignitaries in attendance included National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; Governors Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Monday Okpebholo, and Francis Nwifuru; former Governor Yahaya Bello; former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Boss Mustapha; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu; House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere; as well as 36 state APC chairmen and members of the party’s National Working Committee led by Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Akpabio commended Uzodinma and the PGF for organizing the event, describing it as a significant step in strengthening party cohesion.
