August 05, (THEWILL) — At least 22 people have been confirmed dead and 20 others injured after a trailer conveying goods and 42 male passengers from Kano to Lagos crashed along the Suleja-Lapai Road in Niger State.
The lone crash occurred around 3:40 a.m. on Monday.
Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aisha Saadu, who confirmed the incident, said the trailer lost control and overturned, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.
She said FRSC officials from the Lambatta and Suleja units responded swiftly to the scene and evacuated the victims.
According to her, the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Lambatta, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Suleja General Hospital.
“It was a lone crash involving a truck. Forty-two people were involved. Twenty-two dead, 20 injured at the time of rescue,” Saadu stated.
