December 10, (THEWILL) – Tragedy struck in the Elebele community of Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, as a 22-year-old man, identified as Godwin, reportedly stabbed his mother to death over allegations that she hindered his wealth and destiny.
Community sources revealed that Godwin, who had recently returned from a sojourn in Benin City, Edo State, where he reportedly underwent training at a cybercrime hub known as *HK* (short for *Hustlers’ Kitchen*), committed the heinous act following claims of spiritual revelations.
Reports suggest that the deceased mother had been forewarned of impending danger. A local pastor in Elebele was said to have cautioned her to reject any strange gifts from her son.
Despite the warnings, she reportedly dismissed concerns about her safety.
It was alleged that Godwin told people that a spiritualist, referred to as “Baba,” had informed him that his mother was holding back his destiny and wealth. This revelation allegedly drove his erratic behavior upon returning to the community.
Comrade Precious Okala, the Elebele Community Youth President, confirmed the incident to journalists on Monday.
“My attention was drawn to the incident around 6 p.m. on the day it occurred. On getting to the scene, we found the bloodied corpse of the deceased woman and the suspect tied up by the community youths,” Okala said.
He narrated how the suspect had been acting strangely since returning from Benin City. “We learned that on the fateful day, he had an altercation with his mother before stabbing her in the stomach with a knife. He was heard saying that one ‘Baba’ had told him she was the reason for his delayed destiny and wealth.”
Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that Godwin had isolated himself from childhood friends and exhibited odd behavior. “He even cooked meals for his mother, which she refused to eat, suspecting something sinister,” the source said.
Following the incident, community youths apprehended Godwin and handed him over to officers from the Kolo Division of the Bayelsa State Police Command.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Musa Mohammed, confirmed the arrest, stating that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
“The SCID will carry out a thorough investigation to uncover the full details surrounding the crime,” Mohammed said.
