June 8 (THEWILL) — A principal among the pupils and teachers abducted during attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA) of Oyo State has dismissed reports alleging that the kidnappers are demanding ₦1 billion ransom, weapons, and the implementation of Sharia law as conditions for their release.
The principal, identified as Mrs Alamu, made the clarification in a newly circulated video reportedly released by the abductors, saying the claims being attributed to the kidnappers were false and were complicating efforts to secure the release of those held captive.
Mrs Alamu disclosed that the abducted pupils and teachers have now spent 24 days in captivity and appealed to the public to stop spreading unverified information.
“Hello, everyone. I have come to make some clarifications. Today makes it the 24th day we have been in this place, and it seems that some people are making our case complicated already”, she stated.
According to her, the abductors showed the victims copies of online reports containing alleged demands, which she described as misleading.
She specifically denied reports claiming the kidnappers demanded ₦1 billion ransom payment, weapons supply, and the enforcement of Sharia law.
Mrs Alamu stated that the kidnappers were instead seeking the release of certain individuals and negotiations toward resolving the situation. She warned that inaccurate reports and speculation surrounding the abduction could worsen the already difficult situation confronting the victims.
The emergence of the video comes amid growing concern over the fate of about 46 pupils and teachers abducted after armed men stormed three schools in Oriire Local Government Area. The victims have now spent more than three weeks in captivity, heightening anxiety among family members and residents awaiting further updates from security authorities.
Mrs Alamu’s comments have also contradicted earlier reports suggesting that the abductors were demanding large sums of money, weapons, and political or religious concessions.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities in Oyo State had yet to issue an official reaction following the circulation of the video. However, previous statements indicated that security agencies were actively working to secure the safe release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
