March 23, (THEWILL) – The 17 Tsangaya pupils abducted at a Qur’anic school in Gidan Bakuso village, Sokoto State, have regained their freedom.
They were kidnapped by armed bandits at Gidan Bakuso village in Gada Local Government Area of the State on March 9, 2024, while running into their rooms to escape an attack on the community.
In a statement on Saturday, Abubakar Bawa, Press Secretary to the Sokoto State Governor, said they were rescued by troops of the Nigerian Army in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
Receiving the victims on Saturday, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who commended the military and ONSA, said all the rescued children, including a lady, have been subjected to medical extermination to ascertain their health condition.
“All the children have been found healthy and are ready to be reunited with their parents,” he said.
The Governor also announced a donation of two bags of grains and N100,000 to each of the rescued abductees.
“I want to use this medium to call on people of the state to continue to support the present administration in its quest to fully secure the State,” Governor Aliyu urged.
The Garrison Commander 8 Division Nigerian Army Sokoto, Brig. Gen. Alex Amos Tawasimi, commended the Governor for his unflinching support to the Military, especially in the task of ridding the State of banditry.
