March 10, (THEWILL) – Abia Community in Udi local government area of Enugu State, has appealed to contractors handling the Miller-Orieagu road to return to site and complete the road construction, which was facilitated by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu.
Abia Town Union’s Secretary General, Edwin Ginika Barry Ene, who made the appeal on behalf of Abia Community, expressed hope that the contractors would soon return to the abandoned road.
According to him, Abia Town Union has made positive impact in the area of education, human development infrastructure, economic, social and political transformation of Abia town.
He said, “No doubt Abia Town Union has contributed in no little way to the socio-economic growth of Abia town, through construction of roads. Notable among the roads, is the recently constructed 5km Pius Chime road, facilitated by our own son and real Estate magnate, Rev. (Suv) Ugochukwu Chime.
“Also,the Miller-Orieagu road has been under serious maintenance by the community, until it was recently awarded for construction by the Federal government and being facilitated by His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, former Deputy senate president. We are hoping that the contractors will soon return to the abandoned road.
“In the Areas of education, Abia town Union in collaboration with the state government constructed 6 classroom blocks at Central School Abia and another 3 classroom block with toilet facilities at Community Primary School Abia.
“The schools were equipped with reading desks and computers, courtesy of the state Education board and today, our children are doing so well and learning under a conducive atmosphere.
“In line with the Spirit of giving good education background to our people, the incumbent president, General Mr Okechukwu Ali and his executive team, will soon come up with a good basic education master plan for the community, where our pupils and students are expected to benefit from the community bursary award and scholarship programs.
“Our set goal is to continue to produce academics like our own Late Prof L.E Aneke (Onowu), Doctors, Engineers ,Lawyers, administrators and other professionals alike.
“The town Union will continue to engage in a closer relationship with the Igwe in council, other community town Unions and indeed the government for exchange of ideas on community development, engaging members of the community and proper mobilisation of the Abia town people at home and in diaspora for a better and productive town Union”, he said.
