September 17, (THEWILL) — Afriland Properties Plc has expressed sadness over the fire incident that occurred on Tuesday at Afriland Towers, its headquarters located on Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The building also houses a branch of United Bank for Africa Plc.
In a statement signed by its Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Chukwunonso Okafor, the company said preliminary reports indicated that the fire started in the inverter room, with smoke quickly spreading through the building, including the emergency exits, even as standard safety protocols were observed during evacuation.
Okafor stated that the Federal Fire Service, Lagos State Fire Service and other emergency responders were promptly alerted and arrived at the scene to contain the fire and coordinate rescue efforts.
“Their swift intervention was instrumental in mitigating further damage and managing the situation,” the company said.
Afriland noted that investigations into the cause of the incident were ongoing, adding that it was working closely with relevant authorities as more information emerges.
The company expressed appreciation to emergency responders, first aid workers and members of the public who assisted during the incident, while extending sympathies to families and loved ones affected.
