SAN FRANCISCO, July 12, (THEWILL) – Tammy Abraham, the Chelsea FC top striker, has been racially abused again by some stupid and ignorant fans of the club after the team suffered an embarrassing and shocking 0-3 defeat away to Sheffield United at the weekend.
THEWILL recalls that Abraham was a victim of a similar racial incident at the beginning of the season when he missed a penalty in Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup defeat to Liverpool.
Many fans with Chelsea-related avatars and usernames on Twitter called the England striker ‘Apebraham’ on the social media platform.
However, Twitter was swift to react as many accounts with the tweets were deleted and banned though a search on the platform still shows some references to the offensive and stupid coinage.
Speaking back in September about the issue, Abraham had said: “I remember speaking to my mum, she was emotional, she was in tears.
“It’s obviously not nice, seeing your son getting abused. My mum was just thinking, ‘Why him?’
“For me, I am a strong character, it doesn’t affect me as much, but it could affect people who don’t have my personality.

“I was sat in the changing room straight after the game and went on my phone. I wasn’t going to shy away from the situation, although I did have some supportive messages. The other side is not nice to hear.
“I went through a lot of emotion after the penalty miss. I had experience of taking penalties last season, big ones as well. Everyone misses penalties. To miss the penalty… I was devastated and I had a lot of abuse after.”
THEWILL reports that there have been calls for the Premier League to do more to punish racial abuses and attacks in English football.
