
January 12, (THEWILL) – Less than a month after an unspecified number of villagers residing in Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities in the Silame local government area of Sokoto State were killed in accidental airstrikes conducted by the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD), another strike mistakenly hit an unspecified number of local Vigilantes on Saturday, in Tungar Kara community, Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Residents said the vigilantes had mobilised to defend the community when they were struck by the airstrike while trying to retrieve rustled animals from the fleeing bandits.
The lawmaker representing Maradun II Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly Maharazu Salisu Gado Faru, said the accidental airstrikes were targeted at the bandits, who raided the community.
The military authorities are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
