February 28 (THEWILL) – For the second time in a month, a major power outage has hit the Presidential Villa and several parts of Abuja following technical faults affecting the electricity feeder serving the affected areas.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), in a statement on Friday, said the outage was caused by a fault impacting the R4 Injection Substation at the Three Arms Zone, Aso Drive, which supplies power to the Presidential Villa, also known as Aso Rock.
This latest blackout comes just weeks after parts of the Presidential Villa and other areas in the Federal Capital Territory were thrown into darkness on January 17 due to the vandalization of the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) 132kV underground cables.
According to the AEDC, several areas across the FCT have been affected, including Gwagwalada, Kuje Road, Almat Farms, Kiran Farm, Efugo, Kwali Road, Chukuku Environs, Premium Farm, El-Rufai Estate, Daghiri, Kuje Extension, and John Calvin Estate. Others include Kings Court, Karmo District, Idu Industrial Area, Urban Shelter Katampe, Living Faith Church Katampe, Jahi Village, Katampe Extension, and Gishiri.
Also impacted by the outage are Mabushi, Kadokuchi, Navy Estate, Anan House, NAF Conference Centre, Lake View Phase 1 and 2, Custom Quarters, Chida Hotel, Dakibiu, Brains and Hammer City Estate, Paradise Estate, Ochacho Estate, Kafe District, and parts of Gwarinpa.
Several government and commercial facilities, including the American Embassy Estate, War College Zone C, Lateef Jakande Zone E, Bestway Hotel, Eterna Filling Station, and the R3 and R5 Injection Substations, are also affected.
The AEDC has urged residents to be patient, assuring that its engineers are working to restore electricity to the affected areas as soon as possible.
