September 17, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has disbursed ₦46,995,139.32 to families of officers who died in the line of duty, while also decorating a fresh batch of senior officers promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, who presided over the ceremony at the Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, said the payments were made under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Azare noted that the gesture underscored the Force’s recognition of the sacrifices made by its personnel.
“These cheques are not compensation for the lives lost, but a vital support system to help families rebuild. The Nigeria Police Force has not forgotten your loved ones,” he assured the beneficiaries.
Visibly moved by the presentation, families of the fallen officers expressed gratitude to the IGP and the Command, pledging to put the funds to responsible use.
At the decoration ceremony for the new DSPs, the Police Commissioner charged the officers to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility.
“The reward for hard work is more work. Shun corruption, embrace professionalism, and remain dedicated to duty,” he admonished.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, DSP Nsikak Udedeh thanked the IGP and the Command for the honour, pledging renewed commitment to service delivery.
The twin events, welfare disbursement and promotion exercise, reflect the police leadership’s efforts to boost morale within the Force while reassuring families of fallen heroes that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
