June 10, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s leading airline, Air Peace, has condemned the unruly conduct of a prominent Nigerian politician (name withheld) who disrupted operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, on the morning of Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
In a statement issued by the airline’s management, the politician reportedly arrived at Terminal 1 (Zulu Hall) at about 6:10 a.m. for Flight P47120, which was scheduled to depart Lagos for Abuja at 6:30 a.m.
However, in line with the airline’s strict on-time departure policy, the boarding process had closed, and the flight departed as scheduled.
The airline stated: “Upon being informed of the missed flight, the politician resorted to violence, physically assaulting our staff and forcefully barricading the terminal entrance,” the airline said.
“He went as far as sealing off the entry gate and manning the access point, thereby obstructing other passengers from entering the terminal.”
Air Peace described the behaviour as completely unacceptable, noting that the disruption affected multiple ongoing operations and caused inconvenience to other passengers scheduled for different flights.
To mitigate the impact, the airline said it promptly activated a contingency plan, rerouting affected passengers through an alternate terminal to ensure their journeys continued without further delay.
Expressing dismay over the incident, the airline said, “It is deeply unfortunate that a high-profile individual would resort to such disruptive and unbecoming conduct, endangering the safety and comfort of fellow passengers and our personnel.”
Air Peace reiterated its zero-tolerance policy on violence or any form of aggression toward its staff and passengers.
“We urge all guests to remain civil and cooperative at all times. Aviation operations are governed by strict timelines and safety protocols, and we remain committed to upholding these standards while providing safe and timely service to the Nigerian public.
“Air Peace stands firmly for discipline, integrity, and respect for due process. No individual, no matter how influential, is above these values,” the statement added.
