June 11, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the traditional military parade initially planned to commemorate the 26th Democracy Day on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
A statement issued by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day Celebration, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu will broadcast to the nation at 7:00 a.m.
While there will be no ceremonial parade unlike previous years, however, the President is scheduled to attend a special joint session of the National Assembly at 12:00 noon. The session will include key addresses on the State of the Nation, reflections on Nigeria’s democratic progress, and renewed emphasis on national unity and reform.
Citizens are encouraged to tune in to the presidential broadcast and engage in the ongoing national dialogue aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and advancing key reforms.
Television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigeria Television Authority and Radio Nigeria for the broadcast.

Chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF): Sen. George Akume, other members of the Inter-Ministerial Committee include the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning: Sen. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike; Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Special Adviser to the President, Policy and Coordination: Hadiza Bala-Usman.
Others are Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; Director-General, Department of State Services, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi; Commander, Guards Brigade, Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya; Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, OSGF; Dr Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Kachollom Daju and Permanent Secretary, Political and Economic Affairs Office(OSGF)- Member/Secretary, Engr. Nadungu Gagare
The Terms of Reference for the Committee are to plan, organise and execute all approved activities befitting the Democracy Day Celebration; co-opt any organisation(s)/person(s) relevant towards the successful execution of the programme; Document for posterity all activities for the Democracy Day Celebration; and Carry out any other assignment as may be required towards the successful implementation of the celebration.
