Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, gave the assurance on Monday during a courtesy visit by the Head of Chancery at the Tanzanian High Commission, Mrs. Judica Elfadhili Nagunwa, at his office in Abuja.
A statement signed by Tunde Moshood, Special Assistant on Media and Communications to the Minister, said that discussions during the meeting centred on Air Tanzania’s request to launch direct flights between Dar es Salaam and Lagos or Abuja.
Mrs. Nagunwa noted that the establishment of direct air links would significantly boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between both countries. She expressed Tanzania’s readiness to work closely with Nigeria in ensuring the seamless takeoff of the proposed service.
In his response, Keyamo welcomed the initiative and assured the Tanzanian delegation of Nigeria’s support. He noted that the Ministry is open to fast-tracking necessary regulatory approvals and bilateral procedures in line with the country’s aviation policies.
Both parties agreed to maintain ongoing engagements between aviation authorities in Nigeria and Tanzania to facilitate the swift operationalisation of the route.
The proposed direct flights are expected to open new opportunities for economic cooperation and foster stronger people-to-people ties between the two nations.
