July 14, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has expressed satisfaction with projects executed by the Itu Local Government Council, commending the council’s management for accountability in the use of public funds and the implementation of development initiatives.
The commendation came during the committee’s oversight visit to Itu Local Government as part of a statewide inspection of projects undertaken by the state’s 31 local government councils to assess project execution and public fund utilisation.
Led by the committee chairman, Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung, the lawmakers inspected ongoing and completed projects before holding an interactive session at the Itu Local Government Council Secretariat in Mbak Atai.
Addressing the delegation, the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Ubong Wilson Nkutt, described the oversight exercise as an important mechanism for strengthening transparency, accountability and effective grassroots governance.
Nkutt said his administration remained committed to improving the welfare of residents through investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, sports and security. He also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the development agenda of the Akwa Ibom State Government.
Speaking after the inspection, Idung said the committee was impressed by the level of development recorded in the local government, noting that the projects reflected prudent management of public resources and effective service delivery.
He urged the council to sustain the momentum in project execution and continue delivering initiatives that would benefit residents.
Other members of the committee, including Rt. Hon. Kenim Onofiok and Rt. Hon. Moses Ekpo, also commended the council’s performance, describing the projects inspected as evidence of effective leadership and responsible governance.
At the end of the visit, the committee expressed satisfaction with both the quality of the projects executed and the level of accountability demonstrated by the Itu Local Government Council.
