March 01, (THEWILL) – Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio has filed lawsuits against Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, over alleged defamatory claim of sexual advances by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio
Mrs Ekaette Unoma Akpabio is the wife of Nigerian Senate President and former Akwa Ibom governor, Godswill Akpabio.
THEWILL had reported on Friday that Natasha, in an interview on Arise TV, accused Godswill Akpabio of persistent sexual advances.
She claimed that Akpabio’s hostility towards her stems from her refusal to entertain them.
“My refusal to yield to his consistent advances, both within and outside the country, is the reason behind the victimisation I face in the Senate. It all started on the 8th of December 2023, which was a day before his birthday and my birthday; we are birthday mates”, Natasha alleged.
Reacting to the allegation in a multiple suits filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Mrs Akpabio claimed that Natasha’s allegation were defamatory and violated her rights under the Nigerian Constitution and international human rights laws.
In the fundamental rights lawsuit marked No: CV/814/25), Mrs Akpabio is praying the court for an order of perpetual injunction restraining Natasha from making further “inciteful, scandalous, and spiteful” statements that allegedly caused emotional and psychological distress to her and her children.
She is also seeking an award of N250 billion in damages for the alleged violation of her rights.
In another defamation suit marked No: CV/816/25, Mrs Akpabio claimed that Natasha’s allegation of sexual advances by the Senate President has tarnished her family’s reputation.
She, therefore, prayed the court for an order compelling Natasha to issue a “formal written retraction and an unconditional public apology in The Guardian and ThisDay newspapers.
“N1 billion in punitive and exemplary damages for the alleged defamation.
“A perpetual injunction preventing Akpoti-Uduaghan from making further defamatory statements.”
Natasha had earlier filed a N100.3bn defamation suit against Senate President Akpabio.
