June 07, (THEWILL) -The former interim secretary of the All progressives Congress (APC), John James Udoedehe, Monday, tendered his resignation from the party, and has picked up the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) Gubernatorial nomination forms to contest for governor in Akwa Ibom State.
Udoedehe, a founding member of the APC, had failed in his bid to secure the party’s governorship ticket in Akwa Ibom State, which was said to have been won by Obong Akan Udofia.
In a statement addressed to the ward chairman of the party in Uyo local government Area of Akwa Ibom, said it was though a painful decision.
It was gathered that Udoedehe’s decision to resign may have come after his faction of the party failed to be recognised by the national secretariat of the party.
Instead, it was a rival faction of the party that was given recognition, following a ruling by a Federal High Court.
The letter read in part that: “Henceforth, I cease to be a member of APC in my ward or anywhere for that matter. I, hereby, relinquish all rights which inured to me as a member of the APC, member of the national advisory council and member of the national caucus of the APC.
“This decision to part ways with the APC is a tough one, but leadership entails adherence to the wishes of the vast majority of associates, allies and supporters, who have shown fidelity over time and have now witnessed the obduracy of the APC in handling the candidate selection processes in Akwa Ibom State.
“Our greater goal of providing service to the people of our dear state remains sacrosanct”, the letter stated.
Udoedehe was unanimously voted as a consensus candidate out of the three persons that aspired for the Governorship slot of the NNPP in Akwa Ibom State.
