Akwa Ibom At 34; Udom Harps On Unity, Right Successor

September 24, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has urged the people of the state to guard against sacrificing the hard earned achievements of past and present administrations in the state on the ulter of frivolities in shipping for who succeeds him in 2023.

The governor, who gave the urge in his broadcast speech to mark the 34th anniversary celebration of the state Thursday, noted that all he wants is continuity, sustainability as well as safeguarding what have already achieved over the years.

He advised that his successor should be a man that would expand on his developmental strides, even as the state should not be allowed to go back on the unity, peace and security it has attained for the future of its children, and in making the youths productive

He called for unity and strength among the citizens, saying that the state will achieve a lot when the people are united.

According to him “political interests should not allow decent people to veer off the path of nobility, and should not motivate to destroy the best in the state just to satisfy the political paymasters.

“As the politics of 2023 beckons, we must be conscious of moving forward as contained in our State Anthem “forward ever backward never.

We have to safeguard what we have already achieved. We cannot put to risk what we have; we cannot gamble away our future.

“Why do we appear to be propelled by the destructive impulses or the negating spirit to pull one another down?

“Why have we raised to a disturbing level, the sad and shocking tendencies to de-market our State, and present our Symbols of Authority in an unsanitized manner?

“Our founding fathers were united in love, shaped by the ennobling ideals of unity, and propelled by the endless possibilities each felt and believed we were capable of appropriating in unison.

“My fellow Akwaibomites, politics will come and politics will go, but the Akwa Ibom spirit and blood that flows in us all will endure and flourish.

“Political foes you see today may be political allies tomorrow. May our Only God continue to strengthen the bonds of our unity and draw us closer to one another in truth and in spirit, Amen.” the governor stressed.

He noted that in the past six years spent so far in office, he has created impact in the areas of industrialization, infrastructural consolidation, education and human capital development, food sufficiency and agro allied concerns, health care delivery for the people, ease of doing business through land, sea and air, power, aviation development, youth reorientation, empowerment, and rural development.

Mr Udom Emmanuel called for calm as he waits on only God to give Akwa Ibom the best governor in 2023.
