
May 03, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Government has congratulated Prof. Chris Ekong on his emergence as the 9th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, describing his appointment as a reflection of merit and leadership capacity.
In a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, the government said Ekong’s selection followed a keenly contested process and highlighted his discipline, integrity, and commitment to academic advancement.
The statement urged the new Vice Chancellor to unite stakeholders across the institution, calling for inclusiveness and collaboration in driving the university’s vision.
“As the winner of a keenly contested office, be magnanimous in victory and bring all parties together to foster teamwork”, the statement said.
The government expressed confidence that Ekong’s leadership would strengthen research output, institutional stability, and human capital development at the university, while sustaining its competitiveness among leading institutions.
Governor Umo Eno also assured the new Vice Chancellor of continued partnership and support from the state government as he assumes office.
