October 08, (THEWILL) — The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has charged the 255 newly posted recruit constables to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking during the formal reception of the recruits at the Command Headquarters in Uyo on Wednesday, the Commissioner described their enlistment into the Nigeria Police Force as a sacred call to national duty.
He said their primary responsibility is to protect lives and property while ensuring impartial enforcement of the law.
Azare stressed that the Command under his leadership will not tolerate any form of misconduct or abuse of power, declaring that the era of impunity in the Force is over.
“Discipline and professionalism are non-negotiable. The Command operates a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, abuse of power, or dereliction of duty”, the CP warned.
He urged the new officers to adhere strictly to the operational and ethical codes of the Force and to be guided by transparency, integrity, and accountability in all engagements.
Reaffirming the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Commissioner reminded the recruits to respect the fundamental human rights of citizens as provided by the Nigerian Constitution.
He also cautioned them against the misuse of social media, warning that any attempt to bring the image of the Nigeria Police into disrepute through unprofessional online conduct would attract severe disciplinary measures.
Azare further advised the recruits to see their new roles as an opportunity to rebuild public trust in the police through responsible and community-centred policing.
“Those who joined the Force for the wrong reasons must realign their motives or quit. We are building a new Nigeria Police Force founded on honesty, accountability, and service”, he said.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining public safety, maintaining law and order, and deepening community partnerships through proactive and professional policing.
DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, reaffirmed in a statement that the recruits will soon be deployed across divisions and formations in the state after orientation and induction exercises.
