April 21, (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has delivered no fewer than 1,048 housing units in less than three years, in what the state government describes as a major push to bridge the housing deficit and improve living standards of widows and vulnerable persons.
The State Commissioner for Information, Dr Aniekan Umanah, disclosed this on Monday, during appearances on live programmes: ARISE Akwa Ibom on Comfort FM and Niger Delta Today on ADBN TV.
Breaking down the figures, Umanah said the completed units span multiple categories, including 438 Compassionate Homes for vulnerable residents, 230 units at Grace Estate, 100 units each at Aviation Village and the Medical City Residences, as well as 64 units for House of Assembly members and EXCO, 50 Judiciary Quarters, 35 units at Ewet Luxury Garden, and 31 residences for Local Government Chairmen.
In a move highlighting the administration’s social welfare focus, the commissioner revealed that 150 housing units were allocated free of charge to civil servants on Grade Levels 1–7.
He added that 355 vulnerable persons have already benefited from the Compassionate Homes scheme, with 438 units completed out of a 500-unit target.
Umanah noted that the housing programme is anchored on the governor’s ARISE Agenda, where housing development ranks among 17 priority areas.
He further disclosed plans to expand the initiative with an additional 150 townhouses along the reclaimed Uyo Village Road axis, signaling continued momentum in the sector.
According to him, the administration’s housing drive is designed not only to reduce the housing gap but also to stimulate economic activity and promote sustainable urban development across the state.
He assured that more housing projects are underway and will be delivered in phases as the government intensifies efforts to meet the growing needs of residents.
