
August 06, (THEWILL) — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation into the suspected murder of a 45-year-old man, Mr Udeme Sunday Uko, who was found in a pool of blood while sleeping, along with his family, inside a church in Ukanafun Local Government Area.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at about 12:10 a.m. The victim, along with his wife and children, had taken refuge for the night in a church located at Ikot Oku Usung village.
A gunshot was reportedly heard within the church premises, and shortly afterwards, Mr Uko was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head, raising suspicions of either suicide or a targeted attack. Ongoing investigations will determine the actual cause.
The Command was alerted to the incident by concerned residents who received the initial report from the victim’s wife.
A team of officers was immediately dispatched to the scene. A locally made pistol was recovered at the site and has been taken as an exhibit. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has ordered a comprehensive and expedited investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the death and ensure anyone found culpable is brought to justice. The Command assures the public that all necessary resources will be deployed to unravel the truth behind this tragic incident.
