June 02, (THEWILL) — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed plans by the State Government to attract investors into the waste management sector as part of efforts to convert waste into wealth, create jobs and promote environmental sustainability across the state.
Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Government House, Uyo, Eno said the government was engaging prospective investors to establish waste recycling and processing facilities that would transform refuse into valuable economic products.
The governor said the initiative aligns with his administration’s economic diversification agenda and would create employment opportunities while addressing environmental challenges.
According to him, waste should be viewed as a resource capable of generating wealth when properly harnessed through modern recycling technologies and private-sector participation.
Eno said discussions were ongoing with investors interested in partnering with the state to develop a sustainable waste-to-wealth value chain that would support industrial growth and improve sanitation.
The governor also highlighted the impact of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy on the state’s finances, revealing that Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) had risen significantly under his administration.
He said monthly revenue inflow, which stood at about ₦400 million when he assumed office, increased to approximately ₦12 billion as of last month, attributing the growth to improved revenue monitoring and the elimination of leakages through the TSA system.
According to Eno, the policy has strengthened transparency and accountability in government finances by ensuring that all revenues are paid into a central account.
He noted that the TSA has provided the government with better oversight of its revenue streams and enhanced its capacity to plan and execute development projects.
The governor said the administration would continue to strengthen revenue collection mechanisms while reducing dependence on federal allocations.
He maintained that prudent financial management remains critical to sustaining infrastructure development and delivering quality services to residents across the state.
Eno assured citizens that his government would continue to pursue reforms and investment opportunities capable of driving economic growth, creating jobs and improving the overall prosperity of the state.
