Chief Senator Joseph Akaagerger

May 20, (THEWILL) – Benue State governor, Revd Fr Hyacinth Alia, has expressed deep sadness over the death of Chief Senator Joseph Akaagerger, who died at the age of 69.

The Governor described the Retired Lieutenant Colonel Akaagerger, who served as a Military Administrator of Katsina State, as a patriotic Nigerian, and as one who gave the nation and Benue State his very best during his life time.

“As a lawmaker and Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District, the late Senator equally proved his quality in politics, business, community service and philanthropy”, he added.

The Governor regrets his sad demise, saying the State will miss his contributions, particularly his counsel and engagements as an elder statesman and prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Elders Forum in the state all of which were geared towards the growth and development of the State.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, quotes the governor as praying God to console his immediate family, his associates and the entire people of Benue State and Nigeria as a whole, urging them to take comfort in the legacies he left behind and build on it to honour his memory.

He equally prays God to grant the Late Senator eternal rest.

Meanwhile, the family of Akaagerger has officially announced the demise of Joseph Iorshager Akaagerger, who died on May 15, 2025, at a private hospital in Abuja, after a brief illness.

Head of the family, Mr Levi Akaagerger Iber, in a statement in Makurdi, said the late Akaagerger served as Military Administrator of Katsina State, and senator in the 6th Legislative assembly in Abuja.

The statement added that, details of the burial programme will be released in due course.
