April 16, (THEWILL) – Governor Hyacinth Alia and other stakeholders have thrown their support for the quick passage of disability law in Benue state.
The Director General, Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, Dr Leonard Viashima, conveyed the governor’s feelings at the just concluded stakeholders’ Consultative Forum meeting to Domesticate the Disability Law in Benue state, held on Tuesday, in Makurdi, the state capital.
According to Dr Viashima, Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration is ever willing to work with International Development partners to achieve the set goals for the good of the people of the state and beyond.
The Director General, who spoke through the Technical Adviser on Bureau for International Cooperation and Development, Mr John Akuse, assured of capacity building so as to manage resources available.
In a presentation, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Affairs, Mr Batholomew Anshe, said the inclusion of people with disability is good and are ever willing to have the domestication of disability law in Benue state.
He decried the non-passage of the law, in which Benue is the only state in the North Central yet to domesticate it.
Professor Christe Anyogo from the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA), said Benue state is lucky to have governor Hyacinth Alia who never looks back on what he intends to do, expressing the hope that Benue will soon join the league of states that domesticate the disability law.
Earlier in remarks, the Executive Director of IFA, Grace Jerry, represented by the Programme Manager of IFA, Mr Stephen Idoko, noted that despite the challenges, she is confident that the Forum would achieve its objective if all work together.
She noted that the presence of stakeholders in the meeting reaffirms the collective commitment to making a lasting impact on the lives of persons with disabilities in the state.
