May 13, (THEWILL) – The Senator representing Kebbi Central, Adamu Aliero, and his counterparts in Kebbi North and South, Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki, have formally announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection was announced in separate letters read at the Senate plenary presided over on Tuesday by Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.
The three senators had defected to the APC on Friday, following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Aliero and his co-defectors cited the PDP’s ongoing leadership crisis, marred by bitter internal divisions and unresolved litigations, as the key reason for their exit.
The defection brings the number of senators on the platform of the APC in the 10th Senate to 68, while the PDP dropped to 30 members from 33.
