October 29, (THEWILL) — Former Nigerian Ambassador to Namibia, Dr Terhemen Tarzoor, has advised the senator representing Benue North West at the National Assembly, Titus Zam, against engaging in trivial political jabs.
In a statement entitled “Senator Zam in need of indabosky deliverance” from hate, Amb. Tarzoor said he observed with mild amusement the recent comments made by Senator Zam, regarding his open support for Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia.
“It appears that the Senator may have momentarily forgotten that I have always been an advocate of constructive dialogue, not a merchant of discord”, Amb. Tarzoor stated.
According to him, ordinarily, he would have ignored such remarks, as they fall short of the civility expected in public discourse, noting, however, that, in the interest of clarity and truth, it is only fair for him to address a few of the points Senator Zam raised.
Ambassador Tarzoor, who was then Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, explained that when he met Senator Zam not long ago, he appeared rather disoriented, with his emotions visibly unsettled and his thoughts somewhat scattered.
“I sensed he carried certain concerns, but he seemed reluctant to express them candidly. His composure was visibly off balance – the sort one observes when a man wrestles more with his emotions than his reason. It was clear he had certain burdens on his chest”, Tarzoor said.
The 2015 governorship candidate in Benue State posited that he was taken aback that Zam who is expected to be honourable would choose to embellish the truth with such creative lies, all in pursuit of a trivial political jab; saying it is puzzling that someone who is a stakeholder in our national security responsibilities would find greater comfort in offering unsolicited counsel to a sitting governor, while his own report card begs for improvement.
Perhaps, it would serve the good Senator better to channel his energy toward what truly matters, such as development, progress, and the well-being of our people, arguing that governance is not about liking somebody’s face.
“It’s about engaging with the facts. In this case, the facts regarding Fr. Hyacinth Alia’s policies are expected to be exactly what he ought to engage with”, he advised.
The former Speaker said he is fully aware of his place and responsibilities, both locally and internationally, and I would prefer not to condescend too low to engage on the same level with Senator Zam.
THEWILL recalls that Senator Titus Zam, in a statement entitled “Pray for Rt Hon Tarzoor”, alleged that he watched the ex-PDP Gubernatorial candidate look distressed.
He also accused Amb. Tarzoor dumped the then Governor, Gabriel Suswam, who made him Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, and ran to Senator George Akume. Through the instrumentality of Akume, he was appointed Nigeria’s Ambassador to Namibia.
According to Zam, in the course of their meeting in Abuja, Amb. Tarzoor, they discussed the alleged misrule in Benue state, and were shocked that Tarzoor later declared his support for Governor Alia’s administration.
