Daniel Chollom

December 10, (THEWILL) – The number of Labour Party (LP) lawmakers in the National Assembly further depleted on Tuesday, as Daniel Chollom, the member representing Barkin Ladi/ Ripon Federal Constituency, Plateau State, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his letter read at plenary by the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, Chollom attributed his decision to the internal crisis within the Labour Party, which has impeded his capacity to provide effective representation in his Constituency.

Meanwhile, the House Minority Leader, Rep. Kingsley Chinda (PDP, Rivers) raised a Point of Order against the decision.

Relying on Section 68 (1) (d) of the 1999 Constitution, Chinda, who called the defection a nullity, prayed the House to reject the letter of defection.

“We cannot continue to put the cart before the horse. That letter you read was not right. “If you say the letter he wrote is in order, you declare his seat vacant”, Chinda said.

On Thursday, four Labour Party (LP) lawmakers in the House of Representatives, including Tochukwu Chinedu Okere, Donatus Matthew, Akiba Bassey and Esosa Iyawe defected to the APC.
