March 27, (THEWILL) — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended a chieftain of the party, Mr. Fubara Dagogo, following his legal move to halt the party’s South-South regional convention, in what party leaders described as a breach of its constitution and internal rules.
The suspension was announced by the leadership of Ward 4, New Layout, in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, after an emergency meeting held on March 16, 2026.
In a suspension letter jointly signed by the Ward Chairman, Richard Ibani Benstowe, and the Secretary, Donald Jumbo, the party accused Dagogo of gross misconduct and anti-party activities capable of bringing the APC into disrepute.
Reading the notice in a video circulating on social media, Benstowe said Dagogo’s actions contravened Article 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII) of the APC Constitution (2022 as amended).
“Following the resolution of members and leaders of Ward 4, New Layout, at an emergency meeting held on March 16, 2026, you are hereby suspended indefinitely from the APC on the grounds of breach of the provisions of our party’s constitution,” he stated.
The ward leadership further alleged that Dagogo engaged in conduct capable of embarrassing the party, including making unguarded statements, disobeying lawful directives, and demeaning party leaders within and outside the state.
According to the statement, such actions undermine party discipline and cohesion, adding that previous warnings had been issued to members against acts capable of ridiculing the APC.
The ward executives also urged the state secretary to ratify the suspension and take necessary actions in line with the party’s constitution.
However, findings indicate that the suspension is linked to an ongoing dispute between Dagogo and the party leadership over his exclusion from contesting the position of National Vice Chairman (South-South).
Dagogo had reportedly filed a lawsuit challenging his exclusion from the race at the party’s recent regional convention, despite paying ₦5.1 million for the nomination form.
Sources within the party revealed that he had sought to halt the convention through legal means but refused to withdraw his case even after the exercise proceeded.
Party insiders say the development reflects the APC’s enforcement of internal discipline, while also bringing to the fore concerns over internal democracy and the management of intra-party disputes.
Efforts to get Dagogo’s reaction were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
