May 15, (THEWILL) — The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has postponed its House of Representatives primary election for the 2027 general elections by one day, shifting the exercise from Friday to Saturday, May 16, 2026, while retaining previously announced dates for all other primaries.
In a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, APC emphasised that the adjustment affects only the House of Representatives primary election.
According to the statement, the Senate, State House of Assembly, Governorship, and Presidential primary elections will proceed as earlier scheduled.
The revised timetable released by the APC indicates that the House of Representatives primary election will now be held on Saturday, May 16, while the Senate primary election is slated for Monday, May 18.
The party also confirmed that primaries for State Houses of Assembly will take place on Wednesday, May 20, followed by Governorship primaries on Thursday, May 21, while the Presidential primary election will be conducted on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
Although, the APC leadership did not state reasons for the postponement of the House of Representatives exercise, political observers believe the adjustment may allow the party additional time to conclude consultations and logistical arrangements ahead of the nationwide primaries.
The party reaffirmed the party’s commitment to conducting an orderly and credible nomination process nationwide.
