May 23 (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu, on Saturday, overwhelmingly won the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary election held at Ward L2, Ikoyi II, in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, polling 4,996 votes.
The exercise, which took place at Ireti Primary School, Mekunwen Street, Ikoyi, witnessed a large turnout of party faithful and leaders, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, members of the Local Organising Committee, and returning officers overseeing the primary election.
THEWILL gathered that accreditation for the exercise commenced at about 10:45 a.m. and ended by 11:15 a.m., while President Tinubu arrived at the venue around 11:34 a.m. to loud cheers from supporters and party members.
The President, who joined the queue to be counted after being received by party leaders, commended party members for the orderly conduct and high turnout recorded during the exercise.
Speaking shortly after participating in the process, Tinubu stressed the need for unity and cohesion within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Reports reaching me from across the party chapters show that the exercise is going on smoothly”, the President said, expressing satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the primaries nationwide.
Electoral Officer, Mrs Martha Adukwu, who supervised the exercise at the ward, described the process as peaceful, transparent and orderly, while applauding party members for their conduct throughout the exercise.
According to Adukwu, two aspirants, including President Tinubu and Chief Stanley Osifo, contested for the APC presidential ticket in the ward.
She noted, however, that only the agent representing President Tinubu was present during the exercise.
Announcing the results, Adukwu disclosed that a total of 5,163 registered APC members participated in the primary election in the ward. She stated that Tinubu secured 4,996 votes to emerge winner, while Osifo failed to record any vote.
“Having satisfied the requirements and scored the highest number of votes cast, President Bola Tinubu is hereby declared winner of the presidential primary election in Ward L2, Ikoyi II”, she declared.
Earlier, Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, commended party members for the impressive turnout and urged them to remain orderly during the process.
“You are here to exercise your franchise to elect the candidate of your choice to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 presidential election. We must conduct ourselves in such a way that Nigerians will continue to see the APC as the best organised political party in the country”, Ojelabi said.
He assured party faithful that both the APC leadership and President Tinubu would not disappoint Nigerians.
