November 22, (THEWILL) – The Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, says his administration is re-energised to deliver on its mandate.
Governor Otu made this known in Calabar while formally reacting to his victory at the Appeal Court in Lagos in a petition against his election by Professor Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Governor whose reaction came through a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbeche, solicited the support of the people of the state to build the “state of our dreams”, saying preparations are underway for a very successful Carnival.
“My administration is fully re-energised to deliver on the People First Mandate, which is on track to repositioning our state for effective and responsive governance.
“I solicit the support and patience of all Cross Riverians as we navigate the challenging times towards the Cross River of our dream.
“Let me reassure all our citizens that we are working round the clock to ensure that we deliver the best governance for our people.
“It is important also to note that preparations are in top gear for a robust and successful Calabar festival, while we continue to address other socio-economic and developmental issues,” the Governor stated.
The Governor added: “The ruling of the Court of Appeal today is a welcome development and affirms that we were overwhelmingly voted in by the people on March 18, 2023”.
The Governor also said the ruling by the Appeal Court should end the litigation concerning his emergence as Governor of the State.
He appealed to the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate, Professor Sandy Onor, to join hands with his administration to move the State forward.
“This ruling should bring an end to litigation on the outcome of the governorship election. For those in the opposition, especially my brother, Prof. Sandy Onor, I once again offer you a hand of friendship.
“Come and join my administration so that together we can move our state forward and bring about the dividends of democracy,” the Governor was quoted as saying.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Wednesday, affirmed the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal of September 26, which was headed by Justice Oken Inneh and upheld the election of Governor Bassey Otu and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, as duly elected.
