January 15, (THEWILL) – Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Saturday urged Nigerians to ensure the country remain one and indivisible so that the labour of the fallen heroes in the Biafran war would not be in vain.
Abiodun disclosed this during the Special Parade/Laying of Wreath Ceremony to mark the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The governor, who charged the citizens of the country, to reflect soberly on the soldiers that laid down their lives for the unity of the nation during the civil war, said that the best way to honour them was to make sure that the country did not break up.
He also urged Nigerians to always remember their spouses and children who lost their loved ones and parents to the war, noting that the armed forces remembrance day should be celebrated by them accordingly.
Abiodun said” This day has been set aside to honour our fallen heroes who have sacrifice their lives for the oneness, unity, territorial protection from within and outside of this country. I don’t know whether this is the celebration or more of a time for sober reflection that what we are doing today is the commemoration of the day Biafra lost the war.”
“People do not think deeply about a day like this and they don’t reflect on those who join the army of the armed forces. These young men and women laid down their lives for the oneness of this country, the least we can do for them is to remember this day accordingly. We are not just to remember this day as a day only, we must spend everyday remembering them.”
“We must first remember their spouses, children and particularly ensuring the oneness of this country. This country must remain one and indivisible. These are ways that we can continue to ensure that the labour of these young men and women are not in vain.” he added.
