May 28, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention and ongoing investigation of one of its personnel, Corporal Amina Maidoki, over an alleged case of theft.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Appolonia Anele, said Maidoki’s detention was carried out in line with the Armed Forces Act and the internal disciplinary procedures of the military.
“Her temporary detention is in accordance with lawful procedures stipulated for service personnel,” Anele stated.
The army spokesperson stressed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ethical standards, especially in matters concerning discipline.
“Disciplinary actions within the Nigerian Army are not arbitrary. All personnel are entitled to due process, and Corporal Maidoki’s case is being handled with full respect for her legal and human rights,” she added.
Addressing recent claims that the soldier was being unlawfully detained and denied access to legal representation, Anele described such reports as “false” and “deliberate attempts to mislead the public and provoke undue sentiment.”
She assured that the detained soldier is receiving appropriate welfare and that concerns raised by her family have not been ignored.
“We sympathise with the emotional toll this situation may cause her loved ones. The Nigerian Army remains open to lawful engagement, provided such communication aligns with operational and investigative protocols,” the statement noted.
Brigadier General Anele urged the public and media to avoid speculative reporting, stating that updates on the matter will be provided as the investigation progresses.
Reaffirming the Army’s commitment to discipline and justice, she maintained that no individual is above the law.
“All allegations of misconduct are thoroughly and lawfully investigated in order to preserve the integrity and cohesion of the service,” she said.
