Army Probes Death Of 13-Year-Old In Akwa Ibom Community

January 07, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian Army says it has commenced an investigation into the death of a 13-year-old boy, Timothy Daniel, following an incident that occurred on January 1, 2026, in Ette Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, as earlier reported.

The Army confirmed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo, Captain Lawal Bala Muhammad.

Describing the incident as unfortunate, the Army said an inquiry was immediately instituted in line with standard operational procedures to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the minor’s death.

According to the statement, the investigation is still ongoing, and no conclusions have been reached at present.

The Army cautioned members of the public against speculation or commentary that could prejudice the investigative process, assuring that the outcome of the probe would be made public upon its conclusion in accordance with extant laws and regulations.

Expressing deep sympathy and condolences, the Nigerian Army commiserated with the family and loved ones of the deceased minor and offered prayers for the repose of his soul.

The statement further reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and strict adherence to its rules of engagement, stressing its resolve to ensure responsible conduct by its personnel at all times.
