Arsenal Pull Out As Real Madrid Close In On Vinícius Júnior Decision

Vinicius Jr
  • Arsenal have reportedly ended their pursuit of Vinícius Júnior after concluding the Brazilian is set to remain at Real Madrid.

  • José Mourinho has made the winger a key part of his long-term plans, while Florentino Pérez is pushing to secure a new contract.

  • With just one year left on his current deal, Real Madrid are now racing to finalise an extension before January.

July 30, (THEWILL) — Real Madrid appear to have won the battle to keep Vinícius Júnior after Arsenal reportedly abandoned their pursuit of the Brazilian winger, convinced that he will sign a new long-term contract at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Gunners had closely monitored Vinícius’ contract situation in recent months, hoping uncertainty over his future could create an opportunity to land one of world football’s biggest stars. However, that hope has now faded, with reports indicating Arsenal no longer believe a deal is realistic.

The latest development comes as Real Madrid prepare for another round of contract talks with the 26-year-old, whose current deal expires next summer.

According to reports, Arsenal’s decision to step away was influenced by growing confidence within Real Madrid that Vinícius will renew his contract and continue leading the club’s attack for years to come.

Despite entering the final year of his contract, there has been little indication that the Brazilian wants to leave Spain. While speculation over salary demands and contract negotiations has continued, Vinícius has never publicly expressed a desire to seek a new challenge elsewhere.

Real Madrid remain determined to avoid allowing one of their biggest stars to enter the final six months of his deal, when he would be free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with overseas clubs.

New manager, José Mourinho, is understood to have made Vinícius central to his plans, viewing the Brazilian as one of the club’s most important Galácticos alongside Kylian Mbappé.

Club president, Florentino Pérez, is also personally involved in negotiations and has repeatedly stressed his desire to keep the Brazilian at the Bernabéu for the long term.

The situation is unrelated to Real Madrid’s pursuit of highly rated youngster, Yan Diomande, who is expected to add attacking depth rather than replace Vinícius. Mourinho is believed to envision a frontline featuring Vinícius on the left, Mbappé through the middle and Diomande capable of operating on either flank.

For Arsenal, signing a player valued at around £137 million would have been one of the biggest transfers in Premier League history. However, with confidence growing that Vinícius will soon commit his future to Madrid, the North London club has reportedly decided to end its interest and focus on other attacking targets.

Barring a dramatic late twist, one of this summer’s biggest transfer sagas now appears to be nearing its conclusion with Vinícius Júnior set to remain the face of Real Madrid’s next generation.
