ASUU To Hold Nationwide Rally Tuesday

ASUU

August 25, (THEWILL) — The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced plans to stage a nationwide rally on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as part of renewed pressure on the Federal Government to address lingering issues in the university system.

The union’s Zonal Coordinator, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, disclosed this at a press briefing on Monday at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, explaining that the rallies were a response to years of unresolved disputes between lecturers and the government.

Egbedokun described the protest as ASUU’s first major action in recent years, warning that it was a prelude to tougher measures if the union’s demands continued to be ignored.

The rallies, he said, will hold simultaneously across public universities, with all academic activities suspended for the day.

He added that ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) had given the Federal Government until its August 28 meeting to address the union’s concerns, after which it would decide on the next line of action.

“For over two years, we have kept faith with dialogue and refrained from strikes, but our patience has reached its limit.

“If the government continues to play games with the future of our universities, it must be ready to bear the consequences of the storm that will follow,” Egbedokun warned.
